The Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education is pleased to announce the following trainings:
Teaching Writing to English Language Learners in Multi-tiered Systems of Support
November 20, 2015 from 8:30 AM -3:30 PM at PaTTAN Pittsburgh
December 11, 2015 from 8:30 AM -3:30 PM at PaTTAN Harrisburg
December 15, 2015 from 8:30 AM -3:30 PM at PaTTAN King of Prussia
Participants will learn effective research-based ESL teaching practices aligned to PA English Language Development and PA Core Writing Standards.  Appropriate assessment tools to monitor the development writing skills at different levels of English language proficiency will be shared. The training will include how to analyze the connections between oral and written discourse based on the WIDA performance definitions and WIDA Speaking and Writing Rubrics. There will be opportunities to analyze and connect research-based effective writing practices to elementary and secondary classroom instruction as well as to how to teach Microstructure/Foundational writing skills and Macrostructure/ Processing writing skills to English language learners.
