ESSER/GEER Extra, Volume 17

This week's volume of ESSER/GEER Extra includes appreciation for the timely submission of the ARP ESSER 7% set-aside applications, reminders about the remaining ESSER application timelines, and where to find the ARP ESSER FAQs.

All editions of ESSER/GEER Extra are archived on PDE's website

Thank You
With all of the challenges you are facing, PDE appreciates your efforts to complete ARP ESSER 7% Set-Aside applications by the November 29, 2021, deadline set forth in Act 24.  Nearly all applications were submitted by the deadline, and PDE is in the process of reviewing those applications. Act 24 requires that all ARP ESSER 7% Set-Aside applications be reviewed by PDE and approved or returned to the LEA for corrections within 90 days of submission.

Additionally, PDE is very appreciative of your participation in our PDE webinars earlier this fall, as well as PDE office hours on the ARP ESSER 7% Set-Aside applications. Together, these forums drew more than 1,300 participants. We plan to continue PDE office hours to assist you in completing remaining ESSER applications. Stay tuned for more information about dates and times.

Upcoming ESSER Deadlines
While we know that you continue to remain busy on all fronts as you navigate board reorganizations, the ongoing impacts of COVID, and the holidays, we want to continue to encourage you to complete and submit your remaining ESSER applications as soon as possible.

  • ESSER II: PDE strongly suggests submitting all ESSER II applications by December 10, 2021 to ensure PDE's timely review and approval of the applications to ensure PDE can award ESSER II funds to LEAs by the January 6, 2022 deadline. PDE cannot award these funds after that date. ESSER II funds can be obligated by the LEA through September 30, 2023.
  • ARP ESSER (90% for school districts and charter schools): PDE strongly suggests submitting these applications as soon as possible. Federal law requires PDE to make all awards one year from the date PDE received the funds, which was March 24, 2021. ARP ESSER funds can be obligated by the LEA through September 30, 2024.
  • ARP ESSER (2.5% for IUs; CTCs; PRRIs; Chartered Schools for the Deaf and Blind; A-TSI-designated schools; and entities providing educational programs to delinquent, neglected, and at-risk youth): PDE strongly suggests submitting these applications as soon as possible. Federal law requires PDE to make all awards one year from the date PDE received the funds, which was August 5, 2021. ARP ESSER funds can be obligated by the LEA through September 30, 2024.
