School Reopening
Instructional Planning Template
A planning template, located within the Future Ready Comprehensive Planning
Portal (FRCPP), has been made
available for local education agencies (LEAs) and schools to develop a plan of
action to achieve local goals for
improved student outcomes in the 2020-21 school year and beyond. This is a
voluntary resource available for all LEAs and can serve as a companion tool to
the Health and Safety Planning Template.
In response to
COVID-19, LEAs quickly transitioned to continuity of education, which
highlighted the strengths and challenges in the readiness for remote learning. In
planning for the reopening of schools in the 2020-21 school year, it is anticipated that
instructional delivery will require a model that combines in-person and remote
learning. The planning
process is a critical component to honestly reflect on successes and challenges
of local continuity of education plans in the 2019-20 school year and learn how
to make instruction more effective.
Achieving this
goal will require LEAs to provide the necessary tools and resources for
learning and supporting social, emotional, and mental health for families and
staff members. As a blend of remote and in-classroom learning becomes possible, more flexible staffing models may be
required, along with a clear understanding of which activities to prioritize
for in-classroom instruction, identification of the students who most need it,
and the flexibility to switch between different teaching methods.
LEAs (and
schools) are encouraged to use the School Reopening
Instructional Planning Template to document goals, strategies, discrete
action steps, and plans for professional learning and communication to achieve
local goals for improved student outcomes in the 2020-21 school year and
beyond.
The Resources box on this page will help you gain access to
