Another busy week in education.
This week the U.S.
Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved the Wolf Administration’s plan to
provide Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to students
who are eligible to receive free or reduced-price meals at school through the
National School Lunch Program. The program, known as Pandemic Electronic
Benefit Transfer - or P-EBT - is temporary and designed to bridge the gap left
by schools closing and help families who may have strained resources due to the
COVID-19 pandemic. A memo was circulated to each LEA’s School Nutrition Program
contact on Friday outlining the process to ensure students’ families receive
the P-EBT. It is critical that schools ensure that the information in

family from receiving P-EBT benefits.
PDE also made several updates to the guidance on our

Finally, while schools remain closed through the end of the
academic year, the Governor continues to implement his Process to Reopen
Pennsylvania by gradually lifting some COVID-19 -related restrictions, while
retaining others. The governor’s strategy categorizes counties as red, yellow,
or green. You can learn more about the Governor’s plan on the Process to
Reopen Pennsylvania website.
