Teach-Out Plans
The State Board of Private Licensed Schools may require a teach-out plan from a private licensed school if any questions arise related to the school’s ability to provide the full program of instruction to students enrolled in the school.
A teach-out plan is a written plan that provides details on opportunities for students to complete their program of study if the school ceases to operate.
A teach-out plan must include:
- A list of all active programs offered by the school.
- The number of students enrolled in each program.
- Projected graduation dates for each cohort.
- The school’s plan to provide instructional services to each cohort in each program.
- Plans to accommodate any students on a leave of absence or a non-standard schedule.
- For each program offered, the plan must include a list of other schools within a 25-mile radius of the school that offer the same or similar program.
- Other schools offering similar programs should include other Private Licensed Schools, community colleges, area vocational technical schools, and colleges.
- Information on any other schools that have confirmed teach out or transfer opportunities for students.
- Details regarding the school’s plans to ensure continued operation.
- Confirmation that the school is aware that the regulations of the State Board of Private Licensed Schools at 22 Pa. Code § 73.95 require notice at least 30 days in advance of school closure.
Failure to provide a teach out plan as requested can result in enforcement action for violation of 24 P.S. §6513 (a) (4).
