143 Day

For the third year in a row, people across Pennsylvania have been celebrating 1-4-3 Day on – you guessed it – the 143rd day of the year. Governor Tom Wolf has declared May 23 as 1-4-3 Day in Pennsylvania and is inviting all Pennsylvanians to show more kindness and gratitude to one another from May 21–23, 2021.

1-4-3 has special meaning because of one of Pennsylvania’s most beloved neighbors, Fred Rogers. Best known as Mister Rogers, he regularly used 1-4-3 as a way of saying “I love you” on his television series, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. This reference was to the number of letters in each word: 1-4-3.

1-4-3 Day is meant to inspire acts of kindness and gratitude. There are many ways to get involved and show your thanks and appreciation to those around you. Simple acts of kindness can go a long way. Find a “Kindness Generator” at pa.gov/143-day for inspiration. A “Kindness Tracker” will tally good deeds and kind gestures Pennsylvanians do throughout the day.

Last year, PA recorded over 17,000 acts of kindness on 1-4-3 Day - let’s record even more this year! Be sure to include the hashtag #143DayInPA in your social media posts.

Whether your kindness and gratitude is directed towards coworkers, classmates, friends, teachers, family, neighbors, or even strangers, something small can make a big difference.

Happy #143DayInPA!
